... getting 12 disparate people to see the same information the same way. Even after days and days of trying! Who knew it would be so very, very difficult?

I've been grateful this week for the support and encouragement of friends, family and colleagues concerning my new assignment.

I was chosen to serve on a jury in a criminal trial that is expected to last more than a month. I feel humbled and sobered at the prospect of this responsibility.

I'm sure I'll think often (as I already have done) about Twelve Angry Men, the classic film on the power and importance of careful deliberation. A stage version I saw last year starring Richard Thomas keeps it fresh in my mind. Now the difficulties of that situation hold a new clarity for me.

Wish me luck. Or better yet, wish me the courage of my convictions.
